Club Notes 2 December 2018

Just the Seniors in action Saturday when they welcomed SIL 1st Division leaders, Bildeson Rangers FC, for a third round encounter in the SIL Bob Coleman Cup. By all acounts our visitors had been enjoying a successful season thus far as instanced by their position as almost "runners away" leaders in the SIL 1st Division. However, selection problems (or the lack of players to cause those problems) meant that for a while it seemed that there would be no match. To their Secretary's credit he did everything possible to ensure the tie was on and, indeed, by kick -off time our visitors were fielding a full eleven, together with subs. Despite that, it became increasingly obvious that their "troubles" was having its effect and, despite a promising opening on their part, Achilles literally took over to the extent that the final score, enabling us to progress to the quarter finals, was a startling 11-1 in our favour. For the record our marksmen were Gavin Van Oene (3 inc' 2 penalties), Connor Field (2), Darryn Van Oene, Lee Grimwood, Lewis Kinkaid, Ryan Wragg, and "ogs" (2).

The Reserves were without a game the arranged fixture having to give precedence to the Seniors' home cup-tie. The success has led to the requirement to travel for the quarter final tie to Halesworth Town, currently leaders of the SIL 2nd Division. From this scribe's memory Halesworth were once in the SIL Senior Division but have fallen away, or should it be down, over several seasons now. Clearly, one would expect a "metropolis" of Halesworth's size to be able to support football at, not least, Step 7 level and we look forward to making the journey there on the 2nd February. Good or bad in terms of arrangement the following Saturday we welcome Westerfield United to Salmet Close in the next round of the Suffolk FA Senior Cup.

Coincidentally, this coming Saturday the Seniors make the short journey to the Ipswich Schcol Complex against Westerfield for a tricky SIL Senior League encounter while the Reserves welcome Kesgrave Reserves to Salmet Close for a TPT Cup battle (1 30 pm ko).
