Club Notes 14 January 2019

An excellent week-end for the Club with the Seniors, after consecutive defeats against Claydon FC and Bourne Vale Utd, taking all three points at home against the young and talented Coplestonians FC, via a 3-1 scoreline, while the Reserves followed a similar pattern with a 5-0 win at Wenhaston Reserves' place.

With three of the senior and experienced players in the squad missing, the Seniors' win was even more meritorious and it was clear that the combined "encouragement" delivered by manager, Andy Coote, and coach, Trevor Childs, achieved the desired effect. Indeed, Andy himself, featured in the first 45 minutes and was on the spot to record the single goal advantage just before the break.

The second half was significant for some attractive and competitive play by both sides but it was Achilles who went two up via a fine drive by Ivan Buxton. However, any thoughts that that was sufficient were rudely adjusted when Cops' reduced the lead through a fine free kick "over the wall". However, back came our lads and a direct, wind assisted, corner from Conor Field sealed a fine win maintaining the pressure, in particular, on main opponents, Henley.

Several in the squad were in line for the "man of the match" award but the Club's "judge" divided his praise for Andy (first half) and Louis Kinkaid (second half). On the matter of accolades it's most appropriate to note the input of the Crump brothers who have, so well, embraced the Achillian spirit since joining the Club this season.

Meanwhile, up at Wenhaston, against the Reserves of a Club still suffering from the "closeness" of Halesworth Town, our lads were never really in difficulty and the nap hand just about reflected the difference between the two squads. Our marksmen were Matt McCarthy (2), "Scoop" McCarthy, Keith Grimwood, and Brad Rudland (one each).

Reflecting on the current situation, both the Seniors and Reserves occupy third position in their respective Leagues with the Seniors in the hunt for three trophies and the Reserves two. Everything to go for!
