Achilles 0 - 3 Henley Athletic 16/2/19

Henley Athletic took the initiative from the kick off and looked the most likely to score with their free running forward line. Henley had the ball in the net after 15 minutes but the goal was ruled out for offside. Bruce struck the angle of the crossbar with a free kick on the edge of the penalty area and the same player shot wide when through on goal as Henley gained the upper hand. Achilles came more into it as the match progressed and Jones saved well at Wragg’s feet as the half drew to a close.

Henley took the lead after 55 minutes. Bruce cut in from the left wing and his shot was parried into the path of Cowan who drove the ball firmly into the open goal. Achilles made changes and the pace of the game noticeably increased but the home side’s efforts for an equaliser came to a halt when Bruce extended Henley’s lead from close range. Henley were now playing on the break and Cowan, through on goal, lobbed the keeper only to see the ball bounce over the crossbar. However, the referee was playing advantage and awarded a penalty for an earlier foul by the keeper on Cowan. Bruce scored the spot kick to give Henley a decisive 3-0 win.
