Club Notes Sunday 14 April 2019

After the welcome "hassle" of Cup commitments for both the Seniors and Reserves squads, which saw the former proceed to the final of the SFA Senior Cup for the second time in three seasons, and the latter bow out of the SIL Travel Plus Cup at the final stage against Trimley Red Devils Res', league commitments came as rather a shock to both squads.

So far as the Seniors were concerned, with the retention of the SIL Senior League championship a distiinct possiblity, the short trip to Greshams for the return match against the youthful Coplestonians was made with understandable confidence. An attitude which seemed justified with Achilles tearing Cops apart for the first 20 minutes or so and going into an early lead through an excellent passing movement started and finished by veteran, David Grimwood. During this period the Cops' "woodwork" was struck two or three times and our travelling support had every reason to anticipate almost a "cricket" score.

Not so, assisted by an increasingly worrying performance on our part, in the second period our hosts were allowed to "pick up their pieces" and benefitting from Achilles' increasingly haphazard approach scored twice to deservedly take all three points and raise questions as to whether, despite our matches in hand, the lead that Crane Sports currently hold, can be overtaken.

Meanwhile, at Salmet Close, the Reserves were hosting Trimley Red Devils in an SIL "A" League encounter having lost the final of that Cup after extra time against the same opposition on the floodlit Woodbridge Town ground three days earlier.  Unfortunately, fhe squad was rather weakened for this opportunity to "get its own back" and the visitors were able to travel back to Trimley with all three points from a 5-4 victory and the almost certainty of taking the League "A" trophy as well.

Away from the park a reminder of the Quiz Night to be held on the 27th April in the Pauls clubhouse - contact David or Lee Grimwood and Simon Revell for more details.
