2012-2013 season

Wickham Market 1 – 2 Achilles 27/4/2013

Achilles maintained their challenge for the Suffolk and Ipswich Senior title with a narrow 2-1 victory over a lively Wickham Market side.  The home team started with three forwards and could have taken an early lead when Sam Taylor latched on to a through ball and lobbed the keeper only to see the ball bounce up onto the crossbar. Then Michael Crowfoot broke free down the right wing and his inviting cross was nearly turned in by Mark Ray at the far post.  But it was Achilles that scored first on the half hour when Ben Taylor forced his way through the centre of the Wickham Market defence and drove home from 12 yards.  Wickham Market replied quickly. Sam Taylor's shot was pushed on to the crossbar and Taylor made no mistake at the second attempt after defenders failed to make the clearance.

The second half was dominated by Achilles and Dominic Arnold tested the keeper from the edge of the penalty box before the same player's curling cross evaded everyone and crept inside the far post. Achilles had appeals for a penalty waved away after Ben Taylor was flattened by the goalkeeper's clumsy challenge. Wickham Market still looked dangerous on the break but Achilles finished deserving winners.
