Old Newton 2- 6 Achilles 24/8/13

Achilles took an early lead through Joe Revell neatly played in by Liam Hillyard and deservedly extended their lead midway into the first half when Jack Wilkinson brought down Ricky Deasy's cross from the right wing and shot inside the far post. Achilles should have put the game to bed before half time as good opportunities continued to be created. Old Newton survived with the help of some excellent goalkeeping and could have pulled one back with a 6 yard header from Wake that flew just wide on the stroke of half time.

Old Newton enjoyed their best spell at the start of the second half, Wake scored following up Luciano's shot and Evans equalised with a cracking shot from outside the box. Achilles rose to the challenge, forcing a series of corners, from which Keiran Donovan bagged a brace to restore the visitor's 2 goal advantage. In the final stages Achilles scored twice more, firstly Liam Hillyard turned the full back and crossed for Andy Coote to drive home and then a rejuvenated Philip Deller was on hand to turn in Josh Little's inviting centre.
