Club Notes 9 September 2013

Not a good day for Achilles last Saturday!
The morning saw a frantic message to club secretary, Sue Cook, from AFC Crowley's counterpart indicating that their Inter A squad could only raise up a maximum of seven players for the match at Salmet Close that afternoon - disappointment, with the SIL fixture secretary quickly re-arranging the game for late April 2014.

Meanwhile, the Senior squad were soon en-route for Leiston with every hope that the match against St Margarets would extend the heartening start to the season from three to four wins. Vain hope, at a venue where Achilles so often perform below their best, again, this was the case with the homesters fully deserving their 3-1 victory. However, this didn't really need to be the case with Achilles dominating the first half despite playing against a strong and blustery wind but passing up two or three decent chances before the break. Just when it seemed that, at least, the turn around, with a strong wind, would be from a goalless re-start, a double error in defence presented our grateful hosts with an interval lead. Most of the second half was a bit of a disaster for Achilles with Leiston scoring two cracking goals and, too late, a nevertheless fine effort by new boy, Adam Sturman, reducing the final score to 3-1.  Not available to the squad on Saturday were Brent Richards and Keiron Donovan - and it showed!

Never mind, both teams have still made fine starts and we must hope for better from the games against Melton next Saturday - the Seniors at home with the Inter As travelling to Melton.
