Club Notes 17 September 2013

Better news this week for Achilles Seniors who bounced back from their 3-1 defeat at improving Leiston St Margarets with a comprehensive 5-0 win over visitors, Melton St Audrys.

Not that the first 10 minutes, or so, gave any hint to the result with Melton taking the early initiative and coming close two or three times. However, Andy Coote scored the first of his three, off the crossbar with the Asst Ref signalling "goal" and from there on thereon Achilles were in the driving seat. However, it took progress to the second period before two from Andy and, also, a brace from Joe Revell to more than seal the points. Andy must take "man of the match" accolade but Joe, pushed further forward, showed his goal scoring ability, and a cameo appearance from Brent Richards, confirming what a fine player he still is, also caught my eye.
In manager Lee Osborn's absence, Gary Bartlett and Inter As manager, Shaun Deller, did a fine job from the dug-outs, propelling the team up to second in the table.

On a less than happy note the Inter As game at Melton was called off on Saturday morning "because the pitch was unfit". Difficult to accept after all the hot, dry, weather and this was the second game in succession the Inter As have been idle and no scheduled game this coming Saturday. After the harsh sanction Achilles suffered from the SIL last season it can only be hoped that strong action in both these cases is taken. This Saturday SIL League champs', Ipswich VRs, will be our visitors, with Long Melford in the Suffolk Senior Cup at the same venue the following Saturday.

Finally, the first two 100 Club winners are No. 11 Cyril Garnham, and No. 64 Sid Meekings.
