Achilles 2-0 Long Melford 28/9/13

Achilles had to be at their best to progress to the next round of the Suffolk Senior Cup against opposition from the Thurlow Nunn league who had knocked them out of the Cup twice in recent years.  After 12 minutes, indecision in the home defence let in Ashley Skeggs but his shot went into the side netting.  At the other end Sam Mansfield could only parry a pile-driver from Dominic Arnold and home keeper Jason Bones did well to smother a close range effort from Tom Wingfield.

5 minutes into the second half, the deadlock was broken when Liam Hillyard burst through and, given time to look up, drove a shot into the bottom corner of the net that Mansfield could only stand and watch.  20 minutes later, Long Melford could have equalised when Tom Wingfield found space on the left wing, jinked inside the full back and smashed a shot that Bones finger-tipped against the goalpost.  Then,  Andy Coote robbed full back Fryer as he tried to clear up field and ran straight to the goal.  Under intense pressure from both central defenders, Coote  scooped the ball over the advancing keeper to seal the victory for the Ipswich side.
