Coplestonians 0 - 2 Achilles 5/10/13

Achilles stayed top of the SIL senior league table with a 2-0 victory over a youthful Coplestonians eleven. A goal in each half from Liam Hillyard secured the result but the first chance fell to Matt Bristo who fired wide under pressure from Brent Richards. Achilles were playing some attractive football and it came as no surprise when Andy Coote played in Hillyard for the opener. Just before half-time Coplestonians enjoyed their best spell and Bristo hit the crossbar before Charlie King was tripped as he dribbled into the penalty area. Bristo placed his kick low to the right but Jason Bones pulled off a wonderful save at full stretch.

The second half was keenly contested but the home team were kept at arm's length, Richards in imperious form at the heart of Achilles defence. Achilles scored their second from a breakaway. Hillyard cut inside and let fly from 35 yards (some said 40 yards) into the top corner of the net. The match was well controlled by Mr Wickenden and his assistants.
