Haughley United 2 - 3 Achilles 12/10/13

Haughley United attacked from the off and came close from three set pieces in quick succession, but it was Achilles that came closest to the opener when Dominic Arnold found space inside the penalty area and his measured strike came off the post. The visitors took the lead in the 15th minute through Andy Coote and 10 minutes later Coote doubled the lead with a sharp turn and shot inside the 6 yard box. Liam Hillyard had been causing problems to the home defence with his pace and power and he fully deserved Achilles third dribbling through the defence and sliding the ball past the keeper. Haughley United pulled one back just before half time, Ryan Wrafe wriggled past Richards and neatly chipped Bones as he came out.

Haughley scored a second with an accurate header by Leon Wiggins on the hour and continued to press for an equaliser. Nathan Smith, in particular, was making life very difficult for the away defenders but the ball would not break for a clear shot and Jason Bones was dominating his penalty area with some very secure catches from crosses. Achilles had their chances too. Arnold provided a pinpoint pass for Kieran Donovan to run clear but shoot over and Mark Van-Oen hit the crossbar with a shot come cross. Haughley were awarded a free kick in a good position 20 yards out in the final minutes but the shot went just wide.
